Fire
Prevention
The Fire Prevention Bureau is responsible for the fire inspection
and public education programs. Plan review for all new construction is
completed by the Fire Prevention Bureau to insure code compliance. A
contracted Fire Protection Engineer works with St. Charles Fire Department staff
to complete the plan reviews.
Public education
programs are offered for all age groups. These programs include school
visits, fire extinguisher classes, C.P.R. classes and many other offerings.
Lieutenant Jim Kurczek heads the Public Education Division. The Fire Investigation
Team also works within the Fire Prevention Bureau. This team is charged
with investigating all fires that occur within the area protected by the
St. Charles Fire Department. Lieutenant Tim Petersen heads this team.
Administration
Assistant
Chief Schelstreet leads the Administrative Division of the department.
He coordinates the administrative functions and reports to Chief Patrick Mullen. The Administrative Division also includes the command staff,
comprised of the Assistant Chiefs and Captains, as well as an administrative
assistant and secretary.
Operations
Battalion Chief Scott Swanson leads the Operations Division.
Operations include all activities related to the provision of fire suppression,
rescue, hazardous materials and emergency medical services. The operations
Chief also works with representatives from the Tri-Com 9-1-1 Center to
insure successful dispatching procedures.
Training/EMS/Safety
Battalion Chief Christensen coordinates Training, EMS, and Safety
for the Fire Department. He is responsible for the oversight of three
captains who work the 24/48 shift schedule and manage the training sessions
on their individual shifts. He also works with an EMS officer to review
performance and initiate improvements.
Support
Services
Assistant Chief Fuller is the head of Support Services. Support
services includes apparatus and station maintenance.
