Submittal Requirements for Developers

The Fire Prevention Bureau reviews plans for new construction, additions, and remodeling/alterations of all commercial buildings and certain multi-family dwellings. Building plans are submitted to the Building and Zoning Division for city addresses or the Kane County Building Department for unincorporated areas in the St. Charles Countryside Fire Protection District. A written review is completed by the Fire Prevention Bureau and attached to the building permit. All conditions stated in the plan review must be satisfied prior to final occupancy of the building/space.

Submittal requirements for fire alarm plan review:
  • 4 sets of working plans
  • 1 set of equipment cutsheets submitted to the Fire Department for review and approval
  • Final acceptance test required with contractor present prior to final occupancy of building/space.

    Submittal requirements for automatic sprinkler plans:
  • 4 sets of working plans
  • 4 sets of hydraulic calculations
  • 1 set of equipment cutsheets submitted to the Fire Department for review and approval

  • Submittal requirements for kitchen suppression systems:
  • 4 sets of working plans
  • 1 set of equipment cutsheets submitted to the Fire Department for review and approval
  • 1 type K wet chemical fire extinguisher
  • An operational test that will include a blow-off test, detector/manual trip, auto gas shut-off, and interconnect to the fire alarm control panel is required prior to final occupancy of the building/space.
