Extinguisher Training
The Fire Department offers fire extinguisher training to the business
community or any other interested group. The class includes a videotaped
instructional program, brief lecture, handouts, and an opportunity to
extinguish a live fire. The class is available upon request and is highly
recommended for all adults. A nominal fee is charged for each class to
cover the cost of the program. Please contact the Public
Education Officer at (630) 377-4457 for more information.
Fire Drills
Assistance with planning, coordinating, and conducting a fire drill at
your business is available by contacting the
Public Education Officer. Information will be provided on the best
ways to provide for the safe exit of all employees, their reassembly in
a remote location, conducting a head count, and orderly dismissal, if
needed. Fire drills are highly recommended for all businesses, apartment
buildings, and other places of assembly.
Hazardous Materials Response
Assistance with hazardous materials response issues is available by contacting
the Public Education Officer.
During a site visit, general information will be provided regarding routine
preparedness and the proper way to react to an incident within the first
few moments. Joint training exercises are also available upon request
and approval.
Severe Weather
Assistance with severe weather planning is available by contacting the
Public Education Officer.
During a site visit, information will be provided on collection areas
within the structure that may be utilized to shield employees during incidents
of severe weather. Early warning systems and weather recognition procedures
will also be discussed.
CPR
CPR classes are held on the second Thursday of each month in the Training Room at Century Station, 112 N. 1st Avenue beginning at 5:30 p.m. The class fee is $25, non-refundable, for all participants. The fee includes a book, CPR pocket mask with case, and certification card. All registrations will be walk-in or phone only. Payment must be made at the time of registration, either by cash, check, or if by phone, electronic check. If the applicant cannot or does not attend, we will reschedule to the next available class. Any applicant younger than 16 must be accompanied by a paying adult. There will be no minimum age requirement; however, they must be able to perform the skill set to obtain certification. Because payment is required at the time of registration, there will be no deadline, except that it must be prior to 4:30 p.m. on the day of the class. To register, stop by the Fire Department Administrative offices at 112 N. 1st Avenue Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or call 630-377-4457.
