    How many people does the City of St. Charles employ?
    There are approximately 375 employees.

    Are employees required to live in St. Charles?
    No. There are certain positions that have residency requirements, but it is within a reasonable radius based on the need for emergency response.

    What types of benefits are offered to part-time employees?
    Depending on the regularity of schedule and number of hours worked, part-time employees are eligible to participate in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (pension), 457 deferred compensation, training opportunities, Employee Assistance and Work/Life program, and wellness opportunities.

    How are employees compensated?
    It is the policy of the City to establish a compensation system that will allow the City to effectively compete for qualified personnel and to ensure that salaries are equitable and commensurate with the duties performed by each employee. The salary schedule shall be adopted by the City Council and shall apply to all employees not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

    What is the hiring process and when can I expect to hear back after I apply?
    Resumes are reviewed on an on-going basis. If there is a specific position that you are applying for, you should hear from us within 2-3 weeks after the position closes. Phone calls are made only to those applicants that are chosen for interviews. Thank you letters are sent to those applicants that are not chosen. If there are no open positions that match an applicant’s knowledge and skills, a thank you letter will be sent.
