Criminal Investigations Section
The Criminal Investigations Section includes multiple units that complement not only each other, but also serve to complement, assist, and support the Patrol Section of the Department. The units within the Section include the following:
- Detective Sergeant
- General Assignment Detectives
- School Resource Officer/Juvenile Detectives
- Detective assigned to the North Central Narcotics Task Force
- Inventory/Evidence/Property Custodian
- Senior Administrative Assistant
In addition to normal tasks and caseloads assigned to the General Assignment Detectives, each is assigned an alternate specialty in the area of criminal investigations. These specialties include Criminal Intelligence, Computer Crimes and Child Exploitation/Pornography, Sex Offender Registration, Gang Crime Specialist, and Sketch Artist.
The Sex Offender Registration Program is aggressively monitored and controlled. This has led to several arrests of St. Charles sex offenders for non-compliance, and with the implementation of new and improved State laws, each offender is now required to register up to four times per year, as opposed to the previous standard of one time per year.
