Problem Oriented Policing

The Problem Oriented Policing (POP) Unit was established in November of 2003 and is staffed by two patrol officers. The mission of the Unit is to expand police service to encompass the four objectives of policing:

  • Public education;
  • Apprehension of law breakers;
  • Enforcement of regulatory law and peace keeping; and
  • Improve the quality of life and enhance cooperation between police and the community.

The traditional approach to police service has been incident driven. Problem-oriented policing is an alternative to this type of service. The POP Unit is committed to establishing ties and responding to the needs of the community. This is a program based on the belief that police must become partners with people in the community so that together they can address priorities related to crime, fear of crime, neighborhood concerns, and quality-of-life issues.  Please feel free to contact either of the POP officers with questions or concerns:
