Electric Utility Work
Progress August 9, 207 - Streetlights – City crews recently completed a survey of the entire City to identify streetlights that are not working. We expect to have all of those problems repaired by September 1. Please feel free to call the City Electric Office at 630-377-4407 to report any problem with a streetlight. Whether it is on during the day, it is burned out, or it cycles on and off at night, we appreciate the information and try to fix streetlight problems within 7 days. Some problems involve underground cable failures, which require more involved troubleshooting and repair. In such cases, we aim to know where the problem is within 7 days and repair the problem within 14 days. You can also use the City website to electronically notify us of streetlight problems, but ask that you be as specific as possible in identifying which light needs attention. Testing of wood poles throughout the City has been completed. The effort has identified poles that require replacement. City crews have started replacing the poles, and that effort will continue throughout 2007. We appreciate the cooperation of everyone inconvenienced by the testing and the pending pole replacements. We are in the final stage of the two-year relocation and conversion on West Main, Randall Road, 17th Street and Campton Hills. City Electric crews have installed new underground electric cable and converted all existing buildings to the new underground feed. Removal of the old wood pole line has been phased to coordinate with the KDOT road project for Randall and Route 64. The following details the status of the old pole lines:
Work on First Street remains a major initiative. Currently City crews are working in the Parking Deck (Building 4) area between Walnunt and Illinois. Directional boring work will commence in mid August to replace cable between Corfu and Subway on East Main. The 30 year old cable failed under the Wendy's driveway. Due to the significant inconvenience of repairing the cable within the driveway, the entire loop is being replaced via directional boring to minimize the inconvenience to any of the businesses. |
