Progress
Details of the 2008 program are in development and will be posted here soon.

Pavement “edge-grinding” precedes the heat-scarifying process. This procedure makes room along the curb for the new asphalt overlay. This heat scarifying technique features rejuvenation of the existing asphalt pavement (base) to prepare the road for a 1½ inch lift of new asphalt. The asphalt “overlay” usually occurs 1-2 weeks after scarification. During the scarification process, overhanging trees and nearby grass or parkway plantings may experience minor heat damage. Past experience indicates that no permanent damage will occur. Selective pruning of parkway trees will be occurring as part of this program.

Traffic access will be maintained during the project, however residents are asked not to park on the street during the day while construction activities are underway. The duration of the project is expected to last 3 weeks. Garbage collection will occur as usual.

Residents in affected areas will receive a hand-delivered flyer before work begins. Questions or concerns may be directed to Kristi Dobbs, Engineering Division, at 377-4486/kdobbs@stcharlesil.gov.
