Green PowerA growing number of individuals, businesses and government agencies are demonstrating their environmental stewardship and social responsibility through the purchase of renewable energy certificates. Purchasing renewable energy certificates is an excellent way for individuals and businesses to invest in the preservation of our environment for future generations. The purchase of renewable energy certificates from the City of St. Charles Municipal Electric Utility helps ensure that a portion of the new and existing energy supply in Illinois comes from clean energy resources, such as wind, biomes and the sun. Electricity produced from wind and the sun reduces carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions, which can be harmful to our environment. The purchase of 800 kilowatt-hours per month of renewable energy reduces these emission and has the same effect as planting thousands of trees or driving your car about 19,000 fewer miles per year. This is a significant contribution that any individual or business concerned about the environment can make.
Wind generation – the fastest growing renewable energy resource, from the Community Energy project in DeKalb County. Biomes – waste to energy and landfill gas generation provided from multiple sites in Commonwealth Edison’s service territory. The Green Power program provides businesses and individual customers the opportunity to purchase renewable energy certificates representing the environmental attributes produced from new wind and biomes generation resources located in Illinois. Why wind, biomes or solar?
Since municipal electric utilities are not for profit and rates are based on the cost of delivering power to customers, the total cost of the Green Power program is funded completely by the program participants. There is no impact on our normal rates for this program. Enroll Today! To learn more about the City’s Green Power program, please call the Electric Utility at 377-4407.
