City crews have been conducting Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) inspections throughout the city. In late 2008, it was becoming apparent that certain areas in town had more EAB activity than others. Infested trees are marked with a purple paint dot after confirmation and 2 to 4 weeks before removal a pink dot will be added. By May 1st the City Crews will have removed approximately 663 Ash trees from the parkways. 284 from the Industrial Park east of Kirk Rd, 20 from the Renaux Manor and Harvest Hills Subdivisions, 20 from Redgate Subdivision and 10 others from assorted areas in town. This goes along with the 125 infested trees that were removed last winter and spring from the Industrial area west of Kirk Rd and the 204 infested trees that were removed from the Harvest Hills and Renaux Manor subdivisions. Unless a tree becomes hazardous, removals will be completed by May 1st, and will not resume until after flight season. If a tree is deemed hazardous it will be marked with a pink dot and removed within 2 to 4 weeks.
Homeowners will be notified of chemical treatment options, at their expense, for infested parkway trees as an alternative to having them removed.Additional information regarding EAB can be found at:
