Brush Collection

The City of St. Charles contracts each year to have residential brush collected from early April through early November. This collection is available to residents who pay an additional monthly fee on their utility bills. Please review your City utility bill to see if you are paying this fee, or call the Utility Billing office at 630-377-4426 for verification. Please see the table to the right for a complete schedule for the year.

•  "Brush" is considered to be tree and brush branches at least 4 feet long and less than 12” in diameter.
•  The brush must be placed on the parkway (not in the street), cut ends facing the street. Play it safe, and have your brush on the parkway before 7 a.m., on the designated Monday for the east or west side of the City. Brush collection crews are very efficient, and at times the quantity of brush in a particular area is minimal. Consequently, the crews can move through an entire area very quickly. Once the crew passes an individual address, they will not come back until the next scheduled pickup date.
•  Brush that does not conform to the pickup requirements will not be picked up.
•  Do not tie bundles of brush with rope or wire.
•  Brush must not be piled higher than 4 feet (this practice will obstruct the visibility of pedestrians and vehicles).
•  Brush must never be piled in the street—this is prohibited by City code.
•  Do not place metal, grass, leaves, dirt, roots, poison ivy, poison oak or lumber in the brush pile.
•  Brush piles with vehicles parked in front of them will not be picked up.

Stumps and Tree Trunks: The maximum size the brush crews can pick up is 12” in diameter and 15’ long. Anything larger or longer will need to be cut or split before it can be collected.

Small Twigs, Trimmings and Leaves: These items should be placed in a brown paper yard waste bag with the City logo imprinted on the side. Generic brown yard waste bags can also be used, but must have an orange waste sticker affixed to the bag for the City’s refuse contractor to pick them up. Yard waste bags will be picked up on your normal garbage day. The City Code Book also contains information on refuse fees, rules and schedules.

Free Mulch: Please see the Free Mulch page for additional information.

The Brush Pick-up Schedule is also included as an insert in the City newsletter (April/May issue). The insert is formatted to fit in your St. Charles Resident Guide (call (630) 377-4400 or email scornwell@stcharlesil.gov to request a guide by mail). Each subsequent City newsletter contains reminders and a table of the dates remaining in the year.
