Corridor Improvement Program: Corridor Improvement Grant Program
Businesses located on Main Street, Randall
Road, and Kirk Road within the City limits of St. Charles are eligible
to apply for the new Four Season Landscaping Grants. Ten grants of $500
each will be awarded this year. Projects funded by the Four Seasons Grants
should create a sense of continuity and design impact in the city corridors
through attractive, eye-catching additions of colorful perennial plantings.
Grants must be used to plant hardy perennials,
hardy woody plants or bulbs that provide landscaping interest through
all four seasons. Native plants are encouraged because they are low maintenance,
salt tolerant, and pollution tolerant. These plantings will use a unified
color theme while encouraging creativity in selection of species to accomplish
the unified design goal. Plants featuring yellow and white with accents
of orange and/or red must account for 50-75% of the planting composition.
The remainder may be green foliage or non-flowering foliage texture such
as ornamental grasses.
Awards of the Four Season Grants will
be on a competitive basis. Applications will be judged based on their
ability to fulfill the criteria expressed in the Corridor Improvement
Design Guidelines. The applications are due in August. Questions
may be directed to the Community Developmetn Department at (630) 377-4443.
The Four Season Grant is a component of
the City's new Corridor Improvement Program, which has been designed to
enhance the physical appearance of private property, excluding buildings,
along the City's most public auto and pedestrian corridors. The intent
of this program is to encourage and assist owners of these highly visible
properties to make improvements that enhance the overall economic vitality
and character of the City.
