The Economic Development Department's Business Retention Program includes the following:

Why Build a Business Retention Program?

  • The majority of growth (estimated to be up to 85%) comes from expansion of existing business.
  • Infrastructure to serve expanding companies can be more cost efficient than new facilities.
  • A community cannot attract new businesses if existing businesses are not healthy and/or happy.
  • Satisfied businesses are the best promoters of a community.
  • In order to keep the jobs and taxes they have, communities must take responsibility for determining the needs and attitudes of existing businesses.
  • To demonstrate the community's pro-business attitude.
  • To develop an early warning system of business problems.
  • To identify a process for addressing the needs of expanding business in a timely and efficient manner.
  • To assess the community's strengths and weaknesses.
