Mayor PictureBio - Donald P. DeWitte - Mayor

Mayor Donald P. DeWitte was sworn in as the 17th Mayor of the City of St. Charles on May 2, 2005, following three terms as 3rd Ward Alderman. He follows in the footsteps of his father Alphonse, who served the same 3rd Ward for 24 years from 1964 until his retirement in 1988.

Working closely with the City Administrator on a day-to-day basis, the Mayor's office oversees an annual budget of $145 million dollars and 389 full and part time employees.

With 28 years of private sector business experience and a working knowledge of the municipal government process, Mayor DeWitte has begun the process of implementing a more fiscally responsible philosophy within the City government that reflects the current state of our national and local economies. At the same time, by successfully promoting and increasing the level of commercial development and redevelopment occurring within the community, Mayor DeWitte's administration has begun the process of reducing the tax burden on our residents and business owners, a pivotal campaign objective during the 2005 election.

In addition, in the summer of 2006, the City kicked off the “First Street Redevelopment Project,” a $130 million private/public joint venture that will re-establish and relocate our downtown business district off of a major state highway, while taking advantage of our ability to showcase our riverfront. In the Mayor's words, it represents “a project that will redefine our downtown business district to the next 100 years.”

Working with an experienced and dedicated City Council, it is the goal of the Mayor's office to insure to our City's residents, business owners, and those who choose to invest here, that we will always maintain our well deserved motto, “St. Charles, The Pride of the Fox.”
