Safety TownThe Safety Town program teaches safety to five and six year olds in a wide range of areas including fire safety, stranger awareness, bicycle and pedestrian safety, gun safety, animal awareness, poison awareness, and water safety. Traditionally there are eight 9-day sessions each year with a maximum of 25 children per session. In 2007 the Safety Town program had a total of 198 children enrolled. The Crime Prevention Officer oversees the program and will select one person to coordinate the established curriculum; the actual classes are run by high school and college students who are carefully selected for this position based on their skills in working with children.
