Traffic Unit

The St. Charles Police Department's Traffic Unit enforces City Codes and state statutes to help keep motorists and pedestrians safe on the streets. Community Service Officers enforce parking restrictions to ensure ample parking for businesses, and crossing guards ensure our children are safe as they cross streets to get to school.

The Traffic Unit works closely with local festival coordinators and the Public Works Department to post detour routes for parades, close off streets for festivals, and help direct traffic and pedestrians. They also oversee truck traffic through town, conduct weight checks and issue permits for overweight trucks that cause additional wear and tear on the City's streets.

Child seat checks are offered free of charge to residents to ensure children are buckled in and protected in the event of an automobile accident, and statistics on intersection accidents are collected and analyzed to examine ways to facilitate safer conditions for motorists. Through all of these activities, the primary focus of the Traffic Unit is to reduce injury collisions through education and enforcement.
