Roadway Condition Analysis to Be Conducted

Beginning the week of October 29th, IMS Infrastructure Management Services (IMS) will begin a comprehensive street evaluation for the City of St. Charles that will be used to develop a pavement management program.  All 140 miles of city streets will be evaluated and will include analysis of the existing pavement surface condition and deflection testing.  The fieldwork is investigative in nature and is non-destructive.  The work is expected to take two (2) weeks to complete.

IMS will be driving the entire City public roadway system in a white van equipped with cameras and flashing construction lights, and/or a smaller vehicle with a small trailer.  No road closures are required and the work does not generate loud or disturbing noise.

“Evaluating the roadways helps us identify the proper maintenance technique to apply to each road,” said James Bernahl, Public Works Engineering Division Manager.  “This ensures that the City develops an efficient, cost-effective road maintenance program.”

Once the roadway testing is complete, IMS will compile and analyze the collected data.  The City will use this data to plan and schedule short and long-term street resurfacing and reconstruction projects.  For more information, contact James Bernahl in the city's Engineering Division at 630-443-3709.
