Project News

Two crews continue to work on the installation of the new water main from 7^th Avenue towards Hunt Club Drive. Work has progressed at a good pace and the contractor has begun filling and testing these new sections of water main. Once completed and accepted by the City, the contractor will begin installing new water services to the new water main. During this relocation activity, residents and businesses may experience water service delays. Notifications letters indicating dates and times will be delivered.

Work continues at the northeast corner of the new bridge near the intersection of East Main Street and Powis Road. Numerous utility conflicts have been encountered and relocation work for these items will be required. To read the full update, download the attached document.

Meade Electric will continue to work on the installation of the temporary traffic signals throughout the project. Meade will also be working on the adjustment of an existing electrical vault on Smith Road just north of East Main Street. Once this work is completed the contractor will complete the remaining curb work on the east side of Smith Road and begin working on the west side.  To read the full update, download the attached document.

The Contractor has begun lane closures near the intersection of East Main Street and 7^th Avenue and will be expanding these lane reductions easterly towards Hunt Club Drive. Work is expected to be at this location for the next few weeks, focusing on watermain installation, sanitary service repairs, and storm sewer work. In addition, private utility companies such as NICOR Gas, AT&T and ComEd will be working on relocating their infrastructure.

Note: Although this IDOT contract has been designed in two stages during the weekly progress meetings the project has primarily been discussed as one large project, for that reason these updates will be presented in a similar format until the actual construction work commences. This project is currently in Phase II design with the Illinois Department of Transportation. This project is currently expected to be let for construction in September of 2011. Construction activities will include roadway widening, storm sewer and water main upgrades, installation of landscaped medians, traffic lighting, and intersection improvements.
