Power restored on W. Main, Walnut and Illinois; repair work scheduled

Today at 12:40 PM there was an outage affecting customers in the 200 and 300 blocks of W. Main, Walnut and Illinois. The power was restored at 1:40 PM for the estimated 25 customers. The outage was the result of a broken cutout on a pole at 3rd St and Illinois which set the pole on fire. The damage was temporarily repaired to restore service. We will replace the pole as soon as the weather clears. We suspect the cutout was damaged by lightning in the recent storms.

New Utility Bill Format

The City of St. Charles utility customers will soon be receiving their utility bills in an envelope. Historically, the utility services provided by the City of St. Charles have been billed on a small postcard. Soon, the billing will be on a standard 8 ˝ X 11 sheet mailed in a business size envelope. The new format will provide our customers with a confidential and more informative utility bill. The outside of the envelope will state “Utility Bill Enclosed” so that customers will not mistake the new bill as “junk mail.”

With these new bills, the City’s customers will be given a window envelope to return their payments. The new utility bill format will include a graph depicting the electric and water usage over the last 13 months so that customers can see a comparison of their monthly usage. It will also allow for a message area, which can be used to inform our customers of upcoming changes or schedules.

Currently, the new format is scheduled to begin being mailed in April 2008.

Anyone who has questions regarding the new utility bill format should feel free to contact the City of St. Charles’ Utility Billing office at 630-377-4426 or e-mail your questions to utilitybilling@stcharlesil.gov.
