City of St. Charles Amateur Photo Contest Official Rules
The City of St. Charles is seeking photos that capture the atmosphere, activity and culture of St. Charles. Whether photography is your passion, hobby or an occasional pastime, you’re invited to take part in the 2008 St. Charles Amateur Photo Contest.
Winners will have the opportunity to have their photo displayed prominently for all to see. So, use your talent to capture the beauty and unique character of our fine community of St. Charles.
Categories
- Youth Entry. All entries received from contestants 18 and under will be judged in this category.
- Adult Entry. All entries received from contestants age 19 and over will be judged in this category.
Judging
All photos will be judged by a panel including, but not limited to, the Mayor, representatives from the City Council, Community and Public Affairs, and members of the St. Charles staff. Winners will be announced in December 2008.
Entry Period
Entries are welcome anytime from July 1, 2008 until November 30, 2008. Entries postmarked after November 30, 2008 will not be accepted.
Contest Eligibility
The contest is open to St. Charles all property owners, business owners and residents. Photos may be entered in one of two categories (youth and adult), and will be judged on the quality of the photo.
A single applicant shall submit no more than 3 photo entries. All entries should be submitted in a single envelope.
Awards
The first prize winner of both categories (youth and adult) will have their photo displayed in the Municipal Building in downtown St. Charles, along with having the photo posted on the front page of the St. Charles website, and printed within a major city communication publication (scheduled to be released in 2009). They will also receive an award certificate to be presented at the City of St. Charles Appreciation Dinner event in December. Second place winners of both categories will have their photos prominently displayed at a City facility and receive an award certificate to be presented at a City Council Meeting. Third place winners of both categories may also have their photo displayed and will receive an award certificate to be presented at a City Council Meeting.
Photo Use Policy
Any photo submitted will become the property of the City of St. Charles and may be used as the city sees fit. Photo credit will be provided for any photo used as part of an electronic posting or published within a city document (e.g. "Photograph by [photographer's name]”).
Contest Rules & Entry Agreement
Official Rules
1. Photos must be submitted both electronically AND in print form to be considered.
2. Print photos must be unmounted and may be either black-and-white or color.
All submitted photos must be printed on photographic stock and should be trimmed to 8” x 10” or 8½” x 11”.
3. Original photo prints may be cropped for better composition (as long as the final product is still an 8” x 10” or 8½” x 11” print). Minimal manipulation of digital images with the intention of accurately rendering the subject is acceptable e.g.: small adjustments to brightness, contrast, color balance and/or sharpness, is acceptable. No other digital manipulation of an image is allowed.
4. In addition to the print photo, an electronic file (.jpg format no larger than 3MB each) of the photo(s) must be emailed to photos@stcharlesil.gov. Please send the electronic file of ONLY the photo being entered in the contest.
5. A maximum of three (3) photos may be submitted by any single entrant. If more than one (1) photo is submitted, each photo should be on a separate 8" x 10" sheet (i.e. multiple small photos on one 8.5” x 11” sheet are not allowed.)
6. Only one person per entry. (Photo cannot be taken by two or more people.)
7. Photo submitted must be taken by the entrant.
8. Any submission which does not meet the above criteria will not be considered.
Addresses are used for congratulatory letters. Email addresses and phone numbers are used for notification of entry receipt and clarification of any problems and will NOT be sold, distributed, or otherwise used for marketing purposes.
