IL 64/East Main Street from 7th Avenue to Dunham Road

This project entails the replacement of the existing sanitary sewer on IL Route 64 between 7th Avenue and Hunt Club Road and the existing water main on N. 9th Avenue between IL Route 64 and Cedar Avenue, S. 13th Street between IL Route 64 and Indiana Avenue, Cedar Avenue between IL Route 64 and N. 9th Avenue, and Indiana Avenue between S. 13th Street and the dead end to the east. A significant amount of pavement patching will be involved so the motoring public is advised to use caution when traveling on these streets.

 The portion of the project that lies under the Route 64 pavement will be coordinated with Route 64 reconstruction project being undertaken by the Illinois Department of Transportation. This work will be scheduled to coincide with the State’s work and will take several months to complete.

Since this project includes the installation of a new water main, short durations of water service disruptions are necessary to complete this work. Advanced notice will be given to all affected residents and businesses as needed.

Once all the concrete work is complete the final restoration of all disturbed areas will begin. Topsoil and sod will be placed at all locations.

While driving through the project limits, please use caution and be alert for turning vehicles and construction equipment and workers entering and leaving the designated construction areas.

The contractor has begun patching the pavement at the locations where the new water main connections were made. The remaining concrete work (sidewalks and curbs) will begin.

The contractor is tentatively set to resume work on the water main that remains for the project. The locations of the remaining work are the following: connecting the new main to the existing main at S 13th Avenue at Illinois Avenue, installing a new 6-inch water main on the east side of S 13th Avenue between E. Main Street and Illinois Avenue, connecting the water service and fire suppression system for the building at the east-end of Indiana Avenue, and connecting the new main to the existing main at N 11th Avenue and Cedar Avenue. Once the chlorination lab results are acceptable and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency approves them, the new mains will be connected to the existing water mains and any fire suppression and domestic water services will be connected. The remainder of the disturbed pavement will be patched, various curb and gutter and sidewalks will be replaced and restoration of all grassy areas will begin as well. Read more »
