Natural Resources Commission

The St. Charles Natural Resources Commission manages city-owned trees, including trimming, Tree City USA designation, disease & pestilence, etc.

Arbor Day

St. Charles proudly sponsors annual Arbor Day observance events as a certified Tree City.  St. Charles has been named a Tree City USA fifteen times by the Arbor Day foundation to honor its commitment to community forestry. St. Charles has met the four standards to become a Tree City USA community: a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program and an Arbor Day observance.

Open Space - Community Development

The City of St. Charles encourages development to conserve open space and provide a sustainable environment within the City. This is also an important part of the City of St. Charles’ Comprehensive Plan. In addition this goal is attained by working with both the St. Charles Park District and Kane County Forest Preserve.

Recent projects include restoration of native prairie to Riverside Park, a park on the Fox River bike path. The project eliminated mowing and related emissions, and provides a wildlife habitat.
