This month I would like to spotlight a business in our industrial park. We seek balance in our residential, commercial and industrial sectors as a means of spreading our tax base in a variety of sectors.
Jim Chiavetta, president of Microplastics, Inc. on 38th Avenue, invited me to their facility to understand the business and partake in a tour. I always appreciate an invitation because it offers the opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of the various missions of our St. Charles companies.
Microplastics, Inc. is known within the industry as an engineering design support driven partner. Its customers are primarily from the automotive industry. It prides itself in custom insert injection molding.
The company has been in existence in the contract manufacturing business for 28 years, with 217 employees working three shifts, five days-a-week.
Thirteen engineers are focused on product development from engineering and tooling through molding and assembly.
The plant sits on 50,000 square feet and the company, with adjacent land available, looks to double to 100,000 square feet in five years. The facility on 38th Avenue has been in existence since 2000.
I was most impressed with the number of robotic uses in the plant and the overall superior working conditions.
A unique feature of Microplastics, Inc. is that it is an ESOP company, Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
All employees become owners after one year.
Jim emphasized that they are adding employees now, wants the word out that they are taking applications, and welcomes “new owners.”
Meanwhile, July is upon us, Happy Birthday America, and let’s be safe in our holiday celebrations.
See you around town.
