Traffic Enforcement Over Labor Day Weekend Gets Results

The St. Charles Police Department completed the Labor Day Mobilization campaign associated with the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP). Officers assigned to this detail made:

  • 4 DUI arrests
  • 11 Seat Belt Citations
  • 2 Suspended/Revoked License citations
  • 2 Uninsured Motorist citations
  • 7 Speeding citations
  • 6 Distracted Driving citations
  • 10 citations for other violations

The goal of this program is to reduce the frequency and severity of injury-related crashes.  This campaign was part of the statewide “Click It or Ticket” and the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” programs.

St. Charles Officers also worked to slow traffic in the downtown area throughout the Labor Day Holiday. Between Monday, August 20 and Monday, September 4, 22 traffic stops and other violations were made in the downtown area:

  • 2 Possession of Cannabis and Drug Paraphernalia violation
  • 6 Distracted Driving violation
  • 5 Seat Belt violation
  • 1 Possession of Alternate Nicotine Product by Minor violation
  • 1 Vehicle Seizure and Impoundments
  • 3 Curfew violation
  • 1 Public Intoxication violation
  • 3 Other violations

Efforts with this enforcement will continue throughout the fall 2018.
