Arrest After Attempted Armed Robbery on Howard and S. 16th St.

A St. Charles man was charged with seven counts following an attempted Armed Robbery that occurred on a residential street just after 6:30 this morning.

Arrested was, Charley Soto, M/H, 18 years of age of the 100 block of S. 13th St. in St. Charles, IL 60174.

On Saturday, October 27, 2018, at 06:36 AM, St. Charles officers responded to the area of Howard St. and S. 16th St. on the west side of the river for a report of an attempted armed robbery. The victim reported the offender pulled up next to him in a vehicle as the victim rode his bicycle northbound of S. 16th St.  The offender ordered the victim to give him his money while displaying a weapon.  The victim fled on his bicycle and the offender eventually drove away from the scene.  Within minutes a responding police sergeant located a vehicle matching that of the suspects parked near a playground several blocks away.  After an investigation, the suspect Soto was taken into custody and eventually charged with:

  • 3 Counts of Armed Violence (Class X felony)
  • 1 Count of Attempted Armed Robbery (Class 1 felony)
  • 1 Count of Attempted Aggravated Robbery (Class 2 felony)
  • 2 Counts of Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance (Class 4 felony)

The Geneva police department, Kane County Sheriff’s office and Campton Hills police department assisted in the initial search for the suspect.
