DUI Crash Damages Electric Poles and Business

On Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at 1:04 AM, the St. Charles Police and Fire Departments responded to the 400 block of E. Main Street for a vehicle that had left the roadway and crashed into a business building.

A 2019 Kia was traveling westbound on E. Main St in the 500 blk. At this time the vehicle crossed over the east bound lanes and left the roadway. After leaving the roadway the vehicle hit the traffic light located on the southeast corner of E. Main St. and S. 5th Ave. The vehicle continued west bound through the intersection and struck a City of St. Charles electric box on the southwest corner of E. Main St. and S. 5th Ave. The vehicle finally came to rest against the business building. The building did not sustain structural damage.

The driver had to be extricated from the car after which he was transported to Delnor Hospital. At this time his condition is critical, but stable. The driver was charged with DUI alcohol, improper lane usage, illegal transportation of alcohol, and failure to wear a seat belt. The driver was identified as:

Juan M. Arreola

Male, 28 years old

281 Traverse Ct, Romeoville, IL

Arreola was released from custody and remained at the hospital. The crash caused a short interruption in the power for that area due to the electric box being hit. The St. Charles Electric Department responded and restored the power to the area.
