Water Discoloration on the City's West Side

Water is Safe but could Stain Laundry

We received reports from some residents about water discoloration. The reports were confined to one area of the City. Crews were dispatched to the area and tested the water, which was running clear from the hydrants.

The water in St. Charles is hard, and discoloration from iron and other minerals in the water can occur, especially when changes in water pressure stir up the minerals.

We want to stress that the water is safe to use, but the discoloration could stain laundry. We offer residents a complimentary stain remover if the water stained their laundry.

We recommend residents whose water is discolored run the faucets and the hose until the water is clear. We apologize for the inconvenience.
