Fire Department Responds to Calls about a Capsized Boat

Sept. 12

At 3:59 p.m. on Sept. 12, the St. Charles Fire Department was dispatched to a river rescue on the Fox River north of Pottawatomie Park. Calls had been received for boat that had capsized with unknown people in the water. Firefighters arrived in the area by 4:01 p.m.

The victim was able to get himself to the shore and was located along the western shore behind the house at 966 N. Second Street within minutes of arrival. The victim confirmed he was sole occupant of the boat and the boat was also at the shoreline area. The victim received medical evaluation at the scene, but refused additional medical treatment or transport. There were no firefighter injuries during the incident.

A St. Charles rescue boat was utilized to return the victim and his boat to the Boy Scout Island boat launch without incident. The fire units and personnel had cleared the scene by 4:51 p.m.

The St. Charles Fire Department was assisted during the incident by the Geneva and South Elgin Fire Departments. The Elburn Fire Department changed quarters to assist with any additional calls while St. Charles units were operating at the incident.
