Illinois Governor JB Pritzker announced Kane County will be under additional restrictions after a spike in Region 8 COVID-19 metrics. Restrictions, which include no indoor dining or bar service, and bars and restaurants must close at 11 p.m., go into effect Oct. 23, 2020. Read the entire list of Resurgence Mitigations here.
To facilitate carry-out dining service for downtown restaurants while indoor dining is restricted, Mayor Raymond Rogina has issued an executive order to reopen the closed portion of 1st Street to vehicular traffic by 2 p.m. Oct. 23.
“City staff worked with the St. Charles Business Alliance to inquire if this action would be helpful to businesses on 1st street,” said Mayor Rogina. “Overwhelmingly, the answer was yes.”
The northern portion of 1st Street, just beyond the entrance to the 1st Street Parking deck and continuing to Main Street, had been closed since May 29 to allow for outdoor seating/dining options. The closure was slated to expire Oct. 30, 2020. At their Oct. 19, 2020 meeting, the City Council had voted to extend the closure through Nov. 30, 2020. This current executive order supersedes that action.
The full City Council will vote on officially enacting the measure at the next City Council Meeting Nov. 2, 2020.
