On Wednesday February 23, 2022 at 6:55 a.m., St. Charles Police officers were dispatched to the report that a woman had been shot inside an apartment in the 1700 block of Covington Court. Upon arrival officers found a 24-year-old female with two apparent gunshot wounds. Officers also learned that a possible offender had left the apartment just prior to their arrival. St. Charles Police, with the assistance of Geneva Police Department and the Kane County Sheriff's Office, immediately set up a perimeter of the surrounding area. Within 30 minutes a 17-year-old male was located and taken in to police custody without incident. The female victim was treated and transported by St. Charles Fire Department paramedics to Northwestern-Delnor Hospital where she is in stable condition.
It is believed that this incident was isolated to one apartment and that all parties involved were familiar with one another. There is no reason to believe that the general public is any danger. Our investigation continues and we will provide updates in the event of any formal charges or other developments.
Out of caution, as is our normal practice, we immediately contacted the St. Charles School District 303 so that area school security measures could be put in effect.
