100 Block Whittington Course, St. Charles

The St. Charles Fire Department responded to a residence on Whittington Course at approximately 3 am for a report of a smoke in a building. The first St. Charles fire engine arrived on the scene in under 4 minutes and found smoke and active fire inside the house. The incident was upgraded to a General Alarm. The firefighters worked to bring the fire under control in approximately 15 minutes. The fire was contained to the contents involved upon arrival with fire damage to the contents estimated at $10,000. Two occupants were home at the time of the fire. Occupants were asleep when they were awakened and alerted by their working smoke detectors and then called in the incident. There were two civilians causalities, both were treated and transported to Northwestern Hospital in Geneva for smoke inhalation. There were no firefighter, or other civilian injuries at this incident.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The St. Charles Fire Department was assisted by the Geneva, Batavia, Elburn, West Chicago, and North Aurora Fire Departments, as well as the St. Charles Police Department.
