Happy 185th Anniversary St. Charles!

2019 marks the 185th Anniversary of St. Charles.  We are highlighting stories from our rich history all year long.

St. Charles' 1st & Current Mayors

The mayor of St. Charles has always had the job of ensuring that St. Charles lives up to our well-deserved motto, “The Pride of the Fox.” Continuing to admire the City’s history for its 185th Anniversary, this month we look back at our first mayor, Mayor James Lewis, and see how times have changed, as compared him to our current Mayor, Mayor Ray Rogina.

The Main Street Bridge A Centerpiece in St. Charles History

This month we are looking back at the history of an iconic landmark in the heart of our city, the Main Street Bridge. Did you know that the city actually went through several bridges before building one that could withstand the mighty Fox River? March 11-15 is Flood Safety Awareness Week in Illinois. So let’s take a look at the evolution of the bridge as it struggled against the flooding of the Fox River, among other challenges in its history.

Valentine's Day Throwback: St. Charles' Most Famous Historic Couple

Continuing St. Charles’ 185th Anniversary celebration, let’s look back at one of the city’s most famous couples in the spirit of Valentine’s Day, Lester and Dellora Norris. The two had a love for each other and for St. Charles, which was evident through their many philanthropic deeds. Their legacy and family fortune led to contributing land or funds for the several local landmarks including Municipal Building, the Arcada, Delnor Hospital, schools, and more. Their charity foundation, carried on by their children, has helped leave their legacy alive to this day.
