Whole Foods Market

Whole Foods Market is coming to downtown St. Charles. The store is planned to open in Spring 2025. A specific opening date has not yet been announced.

The location is the former Blue Goose store, at 300 S 2nd St. Fort Union, a regional development commercial specializing in grocery anchors, acquired the property in 2023 and successfully entered into a lease agreement with Whole Foods Market.

The City approved the project in 2023.  The project was constructed in two phases:

  • For the first phase in 2024, the property owner prepared the building and site. Parking lots around the site were reconstructed for future use by Whole Foods, including the City-owned parking lot located at the southwest corner of Illinois & First Streets. A portion of the parking lot now provides parking spaces for public use at the north end along Illinois St. The sidewalks and landscaping around the parking lots were reconstructed to add angled street parking, paver bricks, landscape beds, and decorative lighting.
  • For the second phase, Whole Foods built out the store interior and added exterior signage. This work is now substantially completed, and the store will soon be granted an Occupancy Permit in order to bring in staff and start stocking the store.
