The City Council is responsible for establishing policy, passing ordinances, adopting the budget. The Mayor appoints the City Administrator and department directors with the advice and consent of the City Council. Other offices and vacancies are filled by appointment by the Mayor, with the advice and consent of the City Council.

The annual Scarecrow Weekend, is held in downtown St. Charles, Illinois. 85+ unique, handmade scarecrows will be showcased around town for visitors to view and vote on.

The Zoning Board of Appeals holds hearings and decides on variations to zoning ordinance setbacks, fence heights, lot area/width and building/lot coverage, and reviews and decides appeals to zoning interpretations.

Halloween Trick-or-Treating hours are 3-7 p.m. on Oct. 31. If you are out driving that day, please be extra careful and watch for children out walking.

Fire Chief Scott Swanson has announced his retirement from the St. Charles Fire Department, effective Oct. 25, 2024. Swanson has served as Fire Chief since 2020. Deputy Fire Chief Jeremy Mauthe has been appointed Fire Chief, effective Oct. 26, 2024.

The City of St. Charles has declined further review of the Charles Farm concept plan submitted by Pulte Home Company, LLC.
