The St. Charles Fire Department responded to the report of a building fire on the exterior deck of a third-floor apartment located at 1360 Brook St. at approximately 5:55 pm on Friday May 16th, 2025. The first unit arrived on scene three minutes after dispatch of a fire alarm, reporting visible fire to the third-floor deck and upgraded the alarm. A resident, who does not live in the unit, observed the fire and activated the building’s fire alarm. The fire was extinguished by first arriving fire companies within minutes of arrival. Firefighters then checked for any fire extension and performed salvage and overhaul operations. Damage to the property and contents is estimated at $50,000. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries at this incident. The St. Charles Fire Department was assisted at this incident by the St. Charles Police Department and the Geneva, Batavia, and Elburn Fire Departments. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The apartment is habitable, however, the decks are no longer useable.
