During Public Service Recognition Week through May 10, 2025, we recognize the dedication of the many public servants whose hard work and commitment help make St. Charles a great place to live, work and play. As public servants, if we are doing our jobs well, the results of our hard work should be nearly invisible and silent.

• Flip a light switch, and the lights go on.
• Plug in your electronic devices, and they charge.
• Turn on the water faucet, and clean, drinkable water comes out.
• Snow covers the streets, and you drive safely to your destination on cleared roadways.
• Flush the toilet, and contaminated water is contained, treated, and cleaned before it is released.
• Replace the roof, and inspectors come to ensure it meets national and local codes and safety standards.
• A fire ignites, and firefighters are there within minutes to extinguish it.
• Experience a vehicle accident, police officers respond within minutes to help direct traffic, coordinate cleanup, file a report, and investigate.
• Set your trash and recycling at the curb, and it’s taken away every week.

It’s about providing service you can count on, and much of the work we do happens behind the scenes.
