JUNE 2025 - UPDATE
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) opened bids for this project on March 7th, 2025. At this time, IDOT is still completing their review prior to awarding the contract. Due to the federal funding tied to this grant, the construction contract is bid and managed by IDOT. The City is in regular contact with IDOT to try to get the project moving and will provide updates on this page when information becomes available. The City still anticipates work taking place during the 2025 construction season. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Last fall the city installed new water and sanitary sewer mains on Prairie Street from Randall Road to South 13th Street. The installation of the mains and preliminary restoration was completed on schedule. The road received a temporary asphalt pavement and striping so it could be open throughout the winter. As part of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan implementation, a pedestrian refuge island was installed at the corner of Prairie and 14th Streets to enhance pedestrian safety and reduce traffic speed. The resurfacing project is partially funded by a federal grant through the STP-LAFO Program. The Illinois Department of Transportation is managing the grant funding and the construction contract. Work will include curb and sidewalk replacement, driveway repairs, roadway surfacing, permanent striping, and landscape restoration.
