On Friday, March 6, 2026, at approximately 11:34 p.m., officers from the St. Charles Police Department were dispatched to the area of East Main Street and Hunt Club Drive, for a report of a subject who was reported to be running in and out of the roadway towards vehicles. Arriving officers were immediately met by an individual, identified as, Licurgo Diazsandi, 23, homeless, from St. Charles.
Officers initially attempted to speak with Diazsandi, however, he quickly brandished a knife and charged at the responding officers. One of the officers deployed a less-than-lethal Taser device on Diazsandi and struck him, while another fired his service weapon, but did not hit him. Diazsandi was subsequently subdued and taken into custody by the officers. Diazsandi was taken to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital, and later released into Police custody. One of the involved officers was also taken to another nearby hospital, per protocol.
After police completed their initial investigation, the Kane County State's Attorney’s Office approved the following charges against Diazsandi:
- Attempt Murder (Class X Felony)- Armed Violence - Two charges for Category 2 Weapon (Class X Felony)
- Attempt to Disarm a Peace Officer (Class 3 Felony)
- Aggravated Assault to Peace Officer with Weapon (Class 4 Felony)
- Criminal Damage to Government Property (Class 4 Felony)
- Resisting a Police Officer (Class A Misdemeanor)

Diazsandi was then transported to the Kane County Jail for a conditions/detention hearing, where he is currently being held.
These charges against Diazsandi are not proof of guilt. He is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. All Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
