St. Charles Fire Department to host annual Open House on Sept. 12

Free community event to offer live fire and rescue demonstrations, kid-friendly activities

The annual St. Charles Fire Department Open House will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Fire Station No. 1, 112 N. Riverside Ave., St. Charles.

The public will have an opportunity to interact with firefighters and paramedics in fun, interactive ways, while gaining valuable information regarding fire safety. Several exhibits and live demonstrations will be available throughout the day, including a technical rescue at 1 p.m., a vehicle extrication at 1:30 p.m. and a live firefighting demonstration at 2 p.m. The firefighting demonstration will highlight the effectiveness of residential sprinkler systems in combating house fires.

The event also will feature free activities for children, informational displays about programs and general fire safety, giveaways, and complimentary hot dogs, popcorn and beverages.
