Riverside Avenue Reopened
IL-25/Riverside Avenue is reopened to drivers, and the Fox River Trail once again is open to pedestrians and cyclists. The road and trail were closed as part of the Riverside Culvert Replacement Project at Moore and Riverside avenues. The project is substantially complete — ahead of schedule! Thank you for your continued patience during construction. Here’s what we accomplished to make the area safer, more connected, and better for everyone:
✅ Larger culverts under IL-25 to help prevent flooding
✅ New watermain for better system connectivity
✅ Re-aligned bike path = shorter crossings + safer rides
✅ Creek restored with native plants and natural flow
✅ Completed the sidewalk gap on IL-25’s east side
✅ Freshly repaved and restriped IL-25 ✨

About the Project

To reduce flooding risks and improve drainage, the City replaced the undersized culvert carrying the 7th Avenue Creek under Riverside Avenue (IL-25) in 2025, building on 2021’s initial flood mitigation project and helping prevent road overtopping while supporting future upstream improvements by increasing drainage capacity at the creek’s outlet.
