St. Charles Police Issue Fourth of July Fireworks Traffic Advisory

The Fourth of July fireworks display will be launched from Langum Park. The St. Charles Police Department advises that several temporary road closures and parking restrictions will be in effect to ensure public safety during the event. Officers, Public Works personnel, St. Charles Emergency Management Agency volunteers, and Kane County Office of Emergency Management personnel will be stationed at key locations on both the east and west sides of the Fox River to assist motorists and pedestrians.

The following roadways will be affected:

During the Fireworks Display (Beginning at approximately 9:30 p.m.)

•  Southbound Riverside Avenue (Route 25): Southbound traffic will be detoured east to South 7th Avenue. Motorists will proceed south on South 7th Avenue and be directed west back to Riverside Avenue via Moore Avenue.
•  Northbound Riverside Avenue (Route 25) at Moore Avenue: Northbound traffic will be diverted east onto Moore Avenue to South 7th Avenue. Vehicles will then travel north on South 7th Avenue to Illinois Avenue, where they will be directed west back to Route 25.
•  Prairie Street Bridge: The bridge will close approximately 15 minutes before the fireworks begin and will reopen once the display has concluded.

After the Fireworks

•  South 7th Avenue between Madison Avenue and Fern Avenue: The roadway will be temporarily closed to allow pedestrians to safely exit the east side of Langum Park.
•  South 2nd Street (Route 31) between Prairie Street and Mosedale Street: This roadway will be temporarily closed to allow pedestrians to safely exit Mount Saint Mary Park.

Temporary Parking Restrictions

To accommodate increased traffic and pedestrian activity, additional parking restrictions will be posted and enforced on the following streets. Motorists are encouraged to carefully observe all posted signage before parking.

•  South Avenue from Riverside Avenue to South 7th Avenue
•  South 6th Avenue from Adams Avenue to Riverside Avenue
•  Madison Avenue from South 6th Avenue to South 7th Avenue and from South 7th Avenue to South 9th Avenue
•  Mosedale Street and Horne Street from Geneva Road to South 3rd Street
•  Brownstone Drive, Cobblestone Drive, Limestone Drive, and Bluestone Drive
•  Horne Street from South 3rd Street to Geneva Road
•  Edward Avenue from South 7th Avenue to Nicholas Avenue
•  South 10th Avenue from Madison Avenue to Fern Avenue
•  Fern Avenue from South 7th Avenue to South 12th Avenue
•  Ronzheimer Avenue from South 7th Avenue to South 12th Avenue
•  Moore Avenue (south side only) from Riverside Avenue to South 7th Avenue
•  Devereaux Way (Public Works entrance)

For safety reasons, fireworks viewing will not be permitted on the fifth level of the west-side parking deck. Additionally, the area of Langum Park immediately adjacent to Riverside Avenue is not a designated viewing area.

The Indiana Street pedestrian bridge will also be closed beginning July 3.

Motorists should anticipate heavy traffic before and after the fireworks display. Delays are expected, and alternate routes of travel are strongly encouraged.

Bicycle Safety Reminder

Bicycle riding is prohibited on sidewalks within the downtown, including the 1st Street Plaza area. This applies to both traditional and motorized bicycles (e-bikes) and scooters. Cyclists must dismount and walk their bicycles where "Dismount" signs are posted or where sidewalk riding is prohibited.
