Water and Sewer Rate Increases
Water and Sewer Rate Increases
Why did my water or sewer rates increase, and how were those decisions made?
The City understands that any increase in utility bills can be difficult, and this was not a decision made lightly. We know many households are already managing rising costs, and we carefully considered all options before moving forward. However, it is the City's job to provide safe and reliable drinking water to our residents and businesses and we must comply with IEPA mandates.
The City continues to explore other funding sources, including grants and low-interest loans. However, we also need a reliable funding plan in place now so we can properly move forward with these required projects.
We have applied for grants and EPA & IEPA funding, but to date, St. Charles has not received any federal or state assistance for this work. We recognize other communities have qualified for funding based on priority criteria, and we will continue pursuing those opportunities.
We understand your concerns and know this is a difficult situation, and we remain committed to finding ways to reduce the burden on our water and wastewater customers.
