2026 Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation (Lining)
Update - 7/20/26
Project starting soon! Check back for updates.
The City of St. Charles has contracted Performance Pipelining to rehabilitate 6,000 linear feet of sewer mains. During the project, they will perform Pre-Cleaning, Inspection, Lining and Grouting of the sanitary sewer system. The sewer restoration work is anticipated to begin August 2026 and is anticipated to be completed in October 2026.
The technology that will be used to repair and restore the sewer pipe is known as cured-in-place-pipe (CIPP). It is a trenchless process that involves inserting a flexible liner into the existing sewer, and heating resin inside the liner to harden it in place. This means the sewer will be repaired without digging a trench to reach the pipe. This method eliminates dust related to construction, tree loss, prevents disturbance to the nearby lawn and landscaping, and avoids long-term traffic disruptions.
Traffic and Parking
This type of work requires large trucks and other equipment. The contractor will place safety cones to keep traffic out of the immediate work area. Work will be performed in small segments and will not affect large areas at any one time. Street closures are very rare. In most cases, traffic flow and parking will be only minimally affected.
Utility Service
The only interruption you may experience is during the actual lining process. You will be asked not to use any water which includes flushing toilets, doing laundry, showers, etc. for up to four hours duration. We will attempt to notify all affected customers 24-48 hours in advance to avoid significant inconvenience.
Requirements
You do not need to be home while this work occurs. All the work is done by the outside cleanout and the city's sanitary sewer main. If access is needed, a city representative will contact you. The contractor will start work at 7:00 a.m. and stop by 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, weather permitting.
Following Completion of Work
After work is complete, if you smell an odd odor or experience other issues, please contact City of St. Charles Public Works at 630-377-4405.
