The City of St. Charles Public Works Department celebrated a big win as the Riverside Lift Station was named Project of the Year by the American Public Works Association (APWA) Chicago Metro Chapter. The project will now compete for the national title at the awards competition in Chicago this August.

The new $14.8M lift station at Riverside Avenue and Devereaux Way opened Spring 2024 and is an integral part of the City’s wastewater management system. It has capacity to pump 35M gallons of wastewater per day and serves more than 50% of St. Charles households. The new station replaced the former station, originally located across the street, that had some components which dated back to the early 1920s. The public area around the new lift station and nearby Jones Law Office, also were improved as part of the project.

“It’s great to have this project recognized by the APWA Metro Chicago Chapter,” said Tim Wilson, Public Works Manager - Environmental Services. “The Riverside Lift station is an important part of the City’s infrastructure and necessary to providing the everyday essential services that are fundamental to our residents quality of life.”
