2025 Street Rehabilitation Project

The City will be undertaking street resurfacing projects at various locations throughout the community aimed at maintaining the current roadway infrastructure. See project details below and please check back for project updates as we progress through construction.

4th, 6th & 7th Water Main Replacement & Lead Line Improvement Project

The City of St. Charles is pleased to announce that new watermain and services will be installed on 4th, 6th & 7th Streets. Along with water main replacement, if you currently have a lead or galvanized water service, a new copper line will be provided.

Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan

The Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan is the result of a year and a half of research; directed by feedback from a steering committee, City staff, and members of the general public.

Illinois Street Mid-Block Pedestrian Crossing

The 2023 St. Charles Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan identified the intersection of the Fox River Trail and Illinois Street west of the Fox River as a high-priority location for improvement. This crossing is in a key location for people walking along the river to downtown businesses and the First Street Plaza. Prairie Street Project

The City of St. Charles is pleased to announce that new water and sanitary sewer main will be installed on Prairie Street from Randall Road to South 13th Street. This project page provides many details about this project, but should you have additional questions please don’t hesitate to contact the City.

Riverside Culvert Replacement Project

In 2021 the City completed the first significant construction project to mitigate flooding in the creek. In 2025 the City will be performing the next step in flood mitigation, replacing the culvert that carries 7th Avenue Creek under Riverside Ave (IL-25).

The First Street Plaza

The First Street plaza offers a central location for public fairs and festivals, entertainment and events, or just enjoying the views. It creates a welcoming spot to gather in the already popular downtown St. Charles area.

2023-2027 Strategic Plan

The City of St. Charles 2023-2027 Strategic Plan serves as a road map, guiding decisions about the City’s future for the next five years. The Strategic Plan establishes the City’s new mission statement, vision statement, and guiding principles, which embodies the character of the community and the City as an organization.

Downtown Parking Study

The purpose of the study is to provide City Council and staff with insight and data on the current downtown parking environment and recommend initiatives that enhance the parking experience for all downtown visitors.

Downtown Riverfront Property

Consideration for reuse of City-owned property located downtown along the east riverfront, north of the Municipal Building, including the former Police Station Site.

Fox River Dam fact finding

A joint task force is charged with gathering information related to the environmental, economic, and recreational impacts of the dam for the City, Park District, residents, and businesses. It was formed in response to the United States Army Corp of Engineers draft report recommending removal of nine dams along the Fox River, including the St. Charles dam.

Tax Increment Financing Redevelopment Project Area Interested Parties

The City of St. Charles (the “City”) is required to establish an Interested Parties Registry (“Registry”) for each Tax Increment Financing (“TIF”) Redevelopment Project Area created pursuant to the Act, whether existing as of the date of this notice or hereinafter established.

The St. Charles Initiative

The St. Charles Initiative is a partnership between the City of St. Charles and the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley formed to support public projects in St. Charles. This public-private partnership provides funding through donations and endowments, as an alternative to tax-based financing sources.
