Tree Stewardship

Tree City, USA
Trees make St. Charles a healthier, greener, more beautiful place to live. For eleven years, St. Charles has been designated a Tree City by Tree City USA, in recognition of its stewardship and education efforts regarding local and city-owned trees.

Tree Commission
The St. Charles Tree Commission manages city-owned trees, including trimming, Tree City USA designation, disease & pestilence, etc.
Arbor Day
St. Charles proudly sponsors annual Arbor Day observance events as a certified Tree City. St. Charles has been named a Tree City USA twelve times by the Arbor Day foundation to honor its commitment to community forestry. St. Charles has met the four standards to become a Tree City USA community: a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program and an Arbor Day observance.Land
Open Space - Community Development
The City of St. Charles encourages development to conserve open space and provide a sustainable environment within the City. This is also an important part of the City of St. Charles’ 2014 Strategic Plan Vision and Principles. In addition this goal is attained by working with both the St. Charles Park District and Kane County Forest Preserve.
Recent projects include restoration of native prairie to Riverside Park, a park on the Fox River bike path. The project eliminated mowing and related emissions, and provides a wildlife habitat.
