St. Charles Police Issue Scarecrow Weekend Traffic Advisory

The St. Charles Police Department today issued an advisory to inform residents and those traveling through the city between Friday and Sunday to be aware of a substantial increase in both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. 

Scarecrow Weekend returns, starting Friday, Oct. 6 at noon and continuing through Sunday Oct. 8, concluding at 5 p.m.  Drivers should expect significant delays as they near the downtown area. The festival takes place from South Riverside Avenue on the east side, north to Pottawatomie Park, and then across the river to Lincoln Park located at 4th Street and West Main Street.  Police and Emergency Management Agency (EMA) personnel will be at key locations assisting pedestrians across the roadways. Drivers not intending to attend the festival are encouraged to avoid the downtown area either by using the Red Gate Bridge on the north end of the city, or the Prairie Street Bridge south of downtown.

Parking:

1. Closure: Municipal Building Lot (Main & Riverside): Thurs 6 a.m. - Mon 12 p.m. 
2. Municipal Build North Lot (along Riverside Ave.) Open, with:
     --parking spaces closed Fri 6 a.m. - Sun 5 p.m.
     --parking spaces designated ADA Parking Fri 6 a.m. -Sun 5 p.m.
3. ADA Parking: North 5th St. between Cedar and State Streets east side only, Fri at 6 a.m. to Sun at 5 p.m. 
4. ADA Parking: North 4th St. between Cedar and State Streets west side only, Friday at 6 a.m. to Sunday at 5 p.m.

Street Closures:

  1. Closure: South Riverside Ave. from Main St. to Illinois Ave., Thurs 6 a.m. to Mon 12 p.m.
  2. Closure: Cedar St. between 4th & 5th St., Thu 6 a.m. - Sun 6 p.m.
  3. Closure: 4th St. between Main St. and Cedar St., Thu 6a.m. - Sun 6 p.m. 
  4. Closure: 5th St. between Main St. and Cedar St., Thu 6 a.m.- Sun 6 p.m.
