Municipal Public Power Utilities Earn High Marks in Customer Satisfaction

Under a publicly-owned electric utility like St. Charles has, power is all about service, not profits. As a result, Midwestern Public Power Utilities earned high marks for satisfaction among business and residential customers in 2017, according to Global Market Research Company J.D. Power. Their annual business and residential studies measured satisfaction with 87 electric utilities nationwide, including the Illinois Municipal Electric Agency, which provides wholesale power to the City of St. Charles.

The studies involved conducting interviews with commercial and residential customers to examine power quality and reliability, corporate citizenship, prices, billing and payment systems, communication efforts, and quality of customer service.

Overall, the Midwest region scored among the highest satisfaction levels out of all the power providers surveyed nationwide among business customers. Residential customer satisfaction with public power had also improved for the sixth consecutive year.

One of the main benefits of having a publicly-owned electric utility is that we aren’t working to meet the needs of shareholders or make a profit. Our focus can be on providing reliable electric services to our residential and commercial utility customers while also providing exceptional customer service all right here in St. Charles.
