Building and Related Codes

The purpose of building codes is to see that the buildings we live and work in are reasonably safe from fire, safety and health hazards and that they provide adequate light, air, and basic facilities such as sanitation and heat. Codes also provide for equal accessibility for disabled persons.

Private nonprofit organizations publish model codes that are adopted by cities, towns and counties throughout the United States. The City of St. Charles has adopted the codes listed below, with amendments that tailor them to the needs of our community.
