Attached Garage Fire

The St. Charles Fire Department responded to 1704 Rita Ave. at approximately 4:43 PM Feb. 18 for a report of an attached garage fire. The first St. Charles unit arrived on the scene in approximately 4 minutes and reported a working attached garage fire. The fire was brought under control in approximately 20 minutes and was contained to the garage. The fire did not extend to the living space of the residence which received only minor smoke exposure. Fire damage to the structure and contents is estimated at $27000. One occupant was home at the time, who reported the fire and safely exited the structure unharmed. There were no civilian or fire personnel casualties. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The St. Charles Fire Department was assisted by Geneva, Batavia, Elburn, West Chicago, North Aurora, and Fermi Lab Fire Departments as well as the St. Charles Police Department and the St. Charles Emergency Management Agency.
